Will there be a Messi effect on the game of soccer in the U.S.?

We have had big name stars come to the MLS from an elite European league before, but none quite like Messi, who many would consider the GOAT of “futbol.” With soccer outpacing hockey to become the fourth most popular sport in the U.S. behind football, basketball and baseball, we are keeping our eyes peeled on the impact a player like Messi - and the possible three-peat performance by the USWNT in the upcoming Women's World Cup - will have on the growth of the game in the U.S.

Will it result in an increased fan base, more expansions clubs in MLS and the NWSL and increased valuations for teams, all of which would create many business opportunities for brands, content producers, investors and organizations. I am sure for many that’s the GOOOAAAALLLL!!!

To witness Lionel Messi make his US debut might require a payday as big as his. Tickets for his expected first match on Friday for Inter Miami in the Leagues Cup are selling as much $110,000, according to a search on ticket reselling website Vivid Seats. That’s one of the most expensive ticket prices ever recorded for a MLS team.
