The SAG/AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild – American Federation of Television and Radio Artists) Strike!
You are probably aware that the Joint Policy Committee of the Association of National Advertisers-American Association of Advertising Agencies has clarified that "Under the strike, Union members cannot perform services for television and film projects produced under the TV/Theatrical Contracts. However, as a reminder, the SAG-AFTRA TV/Theatrical Contracts are separate from the SAG-AFTRA Commercials Contract and will have no impact on Union actors who work in commercials or do promotional work on behalf of brands."
What you may not have seen are the various FAQ's that SAG/AFTRA has put out for its members (and non-members). Particularly interesting are the FAQs written by SAG/AFTRA specifically for influencers. Most interesting to me was the following statement about non-union influencers:
Any non-member seeking future membership in SAG-AFTRA who performs covered work or services for a struck company during the strike will not be admitted into membership in SAG-AFTRA.
Seems like SAG/AFTRA is really going to hold influencers' feet to the fire if they are considering crossing the picket lines.
The good news for an influencer is that SAG/AFTRA has clarified that Influencers can still pursue commercial work including influencer-generated brand deals covered by the SAG-AFTRA Influencer Agreement and/or Influencer Waiver.
The detailed influencer FAQ's can be found here.
I hope this is helpful!
